Manchester United and Juventus have held “meetings” with the entourage of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to Sport.

The Frenchman can leave on a free transfer when his current deal expires in June and he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another team in just over two months’ time.

Barca have pretty much lost all hope that Dembele, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for €147m (£135.5m) four years ago, will sign an extension. Sport claim that they have decided to issue an “ultimatum” to the player after an impasse in talks that has lasted for months.

The player is believed to be keen on staying at the Camp Nou but his representatives have other ideas. The Catalan club want Dembele to cut his agents loose but there is no sign of that happening.

It could lead to Barcelona trying to sell Dembele in January, although the 24-year-old seems reluctant to leave before the summer. If no new deal is signed and he remains in Spain, he could be frozen out for the rest of the season.

Were that to happen, United and Juve would be favourites to snap him up for free, although other teams such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the France international in recent months.
