Manchester United have proposed a four-year contract, worth €15m a season (£241,000 a week) to Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji, according to reports in the German media.
The Swiss international is said to have turned down a contract extension at Dortmund as he has set his sights on playing in the Premier League.
Akanji was linked with a move to the Red Devils earlier this month, but it was suggested that a number of other English teams were also looking to snap up the centre-back.
Arsenal are another club who have been mentioned as potential suitors in the past, but it does seem as though United have pulled ahead of their rivals in the race to secure the 26-year-old’s signature this summer.
Akanji will have just one year remaining on his current deal at the end of the season and, with Dortmund unwilling to lose the player on a free transfer, it is believed he could be sold for only €30m (£25m).
