Manchester United have a “strong interest” in Brighton fullback Tariq Lamptey, according to the Daily Mail.

The former Chelsea defender has impressed since moving to the Seagulls two years ago, and he has also been tracked by the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham.

However, United appear to be the frontrunners for Lamptey’s signature at the moment. The Red Devils are keen to strengthen their options on the right-hand side of defence, with doubts over the ability of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

Wan-Bissaka’s form has nosedived over the last twelve months, while there continue to be questions over Dalot’s defensive capabilities. Lamptey wouldn’t be much of an improvement defensively but he is extremely strong going forward.

United are reportedly prepared to pay around £30m for the 21-year-old but Brighton’s asking price is thought to be nearer to £40m. Whether the Manchester club will make a move for Lamptey this month or in the summer, we shall have to wait and see.
