Manchester United are keeping tabs on Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian international is reportedly being eyed as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba if the Frenchman does leave Old Trafford for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Barella had an excellent European Championships for Italy, and Inter have promised the 24-year-old a new contract, but talks are only at a “preliminary stage” at the moment.
With United also pursuing Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, it appears the Manchester club may well be weighing up whether to go after the Spaniard or Barella as they look to strengthen their midfield options.
Calciomercato do, however, suggest that Liverpool are interested in the Italian, while there were reports last month that also mentioned Chelsea as a potential suitor.
Barella is unlikely to be a cheap purchase, though, with it being claimed that Inter may demand as much as €70m (£60m) for the player, so we shall see if United do make a move.
