Manchester United are ahead of the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, according to reports in the German media.

The Norwegian international has now reduced his options to just six teams, after it was previously claimed by his agent Mino Raiola that only ten clubs could afford to sign the striker.

With Chelsea having signed Romelu Lukaku and Paris Saint-Germain having snapped up Lionel Messi, the list of possible destinations for Haaland is decreasing.

The 21-year-old is said to be keen on signing for a team that is a top club and has the overall package in terms of being able to win the sport’s biggest prizes.

United would certainly fit the criteria, and they have a couple of advantages over the competition as well. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer knows Haaland personally from his time at Molde, and the club will be looking to sign a striker next summer if Edinson Cavani leaves Old Trafford.

The Manchester side also have the resources to meet the forward’s wage demands, although whether they would match the €50m a year (£824,000 a week) that Raiola is asking for, it remains to be seen.
