Manchester United and Juventus are expected to discuss a straight swap deal involving Nemanja Matic and Aaron Ramsey during the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Bianconeri boss Max Allegri wants a holding midfielder and he has identified ex Chelsea star Matic as the perfect solution, despite the fact that he is now nearing the end of his career.
With Juve not flush for cash, they could offer up Ramsey in exchange, with the Serie A club keen to get the former Arsenal player’s salary off the wage bill.
Discussions have reportedly been held about terminating the Wales international’s contract, but that would still lead to a significant severance payment to the midfielder.
A more cost-effective solution would be to offload Ramsey to United, whilst getting a player in exchange. Whether the Red Devils would be open to such a deal, though, is debatable.
Ramsey has suffered a succession of injuries during his time in Italy, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has a number of players, including Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard, who play in the same position.
