RB Leipzig did make a late “significant offer” to Erik ten Hag last weekend, prompting Manchester United to push ahead with their plans to hire to Dutchman, according to journalist Jonathan Shrager.
The reporter, who is usually pretty reliable when it comes to news coming out of Old Trafford, confirms reports from the Dutch media that Leipzig’s interest was serious:
I am told RB Leipzig made a very (and somewhat unexpectedly) significant offer to Ten Hag on the weekend in a late attempt to persuade Erik to join their club. This seemingly prompted Manchester United to ramp up their negotiations at the start of this week to secure his services

Supporters on Twitter are not particularly surprised by this development, with many feeling that the Red Devils were dragging their heels before being forced into action:
United never proactive, always reactive. Nothing changes.

Interesting without Leipzig pushing. We were going to delay.

While it seems that United have got their man anyway, it does demonstrate how haphazard the decision-making process is in the club’s hierarchy.
Only yesterday, it was reported that part of the reason they were hesitant about hiring Antonio Conte back in October was down to Cristiano Ronaldo’s opposition.
Hopefully, when ten Hag is officially appointed, he can begin to improve and streamline how decisions are made at United, but with this club, you just never know.
