Manchester United are “on pole” to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo if he can’t agree a new contract with the Catalan club, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The newspaper reports that the Red Devils and Liverpool are the two clubs keeping tabs on the player’s situation but the Manchester side are the ones who have done “the most” in terms of enquires.
Araujo’s preference would be to remain at Barca but, so far, the La Liga side have been unable to agree a new deal with the player. His agent, Edoardo Mazzolari, is expected to fly in from Milan for a meeting in the next few days in order to see whether a breakthrough can be made.
The centre-back has less than eighteen months remaining on his contract and, if he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension, he could be sold at the end of the season.
In addition to United and Liverpool, Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the Uruguayan international in recent weeks.
