Manchester United have offered Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo €10m a year (£162,000 a week) according to reports in the Spanish media.
Chelsea and Liverpool are also said to be interested in signing the Uruguayan international but it appears that the Red Devils have made the first move for the player.
Araujo has less than eighteen months remaining on his contract at the Camp Nou and his representatives have already turned down Barca’s first proposal to extend his current deal.
The centre-back is said to be keen on staying with the La Liga club, though, so while United’s offer is believed to be tempting, he may agree to stay in Spain, even if he is offered a figure below the amount proposed by the Premier League club.
Considering United don’t have a permanent manager in place, it would be a surprise if they have made a genuine approach for Araujo. You do get a feeling that his agent may be using the club’s name to get a better contract for his client.
