Manchester United have been “priced out” of a move for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, according to the Daily Star.

Manager Ralf Rangnick had identified the Nigerian international as a potential option to strengthen the club’s forward line, but Napoli are expected to demand a fee in the region of £100m.

Osimhen joined the Serie A leaders for a club-record £70m in 2020 so it’s not surprising that they are asking for such a high amount for the striker.

Other Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Newcastle, have also been mentioned as potential suitors but the 23-year-old’s price tag will likely put off any team from making a formal approach this summer.

United will be in the market for a new number nine at the end of the season. Edinson Cavani is expected to depart when his contract expires, while there are also doubts about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. However, it seems Osimhen won’t be the replacement for either one of them.
