Manchester United have identified Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi as a possible replacement for Edinson Cavani, according to reports in Italy.
Barcelona are believed to be determined to land Cavani in the January transfer window and, if the Uruguayan does leave for the Camp Nou, the Red Devils will have to strengthen up front.
Icardi has struggled for game time at PSG this season, having had to play second fiddle to Kylian Mbappe, and he may well be open to a move in the New Year.
Whether United should go after Icardi, though, is another matter entirely. The Argentinian international is a controversial figure, to say the least, along with his wife Wanda Nara.
Combined with the egos of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba, adding Icardi to the mix is surely something that manager Ralf Rangnick would not be considering. The club’s interim boss already has enough on his plate as it is.
