Manchester United remain firmly in the race to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer, according to reports in the Spanish media.
It is believed that the Red Devils would be prepared to pay the France international between €10m and €15m a year (£161,000 to £242,000 a week).
However, Dembele is also still being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain, who are reportedly willing to beat United’s proposal, with a wage of around €17m a year (£275,000 a week).
The 24-year-old is out of contract in a couple of months’ time but he has still not made a decision on his future club. Back in January, it seemed like Chelsea would be his next destination (with the player linking up with his former manager Thomas Tuchel). However, the situation has changed a lot since then.
The Blues’ ownership situation means they can no longer pursue Dembele, while the winger has forced his way back into the first team at Barca. The La Liga club would like to keep him but they are aware of the offers he has received from other teams and they cannot meet his salary demands. It does, therefore, appear that United do have a decent chance of securing the player’s services.
