Manchester United only have one remaining candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager, according to reports in the UK.

The Red Devils’ shortlist did consist of four names, including ex Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Zinedine Zidane and Leicester head coach Brendan Rodgers.

However, Conte decided to take the Tottenham job, rather than wait around for Solskjaer to be sacked, while neither ten Hag nor Zidane are thought to be interested in taking over at Old Trafford currently.

That leaves Rodgers, who United feel could be persuaded to make the switch from the Foxes. However, even there, it is believed some of the United board are reluctant to hire the former Liverpool manager.

All this means that Solskjaer will be given more time to save his job. The Red Devils face Watford at Vicarage Road after the international break and anything other than a victory could spell the end for the beleaguered United boss.
