Manchester United have not opened talks with Barcelona about signing Frenkie de Jong but there could be more developments in the coming months, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist believes that the Netherlands international will stay at the Camp Nou for now, despite speculation linking him with the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain:
Manchester United have not opened any talk to sign Frenkie de Jong In January despite rumours. Same for Paris Saint-Germain. Still quiet around Barça midfielder as of now – waiting to see what happens in the the next months. 🇳🇱 #FCB

Reports in Spain have also mentioned Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich as potential suitors but it seems de Jong’s immediate future does lie with Barca.
Rumours about a move were sparked by comments made by the player’s father this week who admitted that his son could have to leave Barcelona due to the club’s poor financial situation.
However, it must also be pointed out that he was rather dismissive of the United links, with Manchester’s weather being cited as a factor in why the 24-year-old would not be interested in a switch to Old Trafford.
