Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed that midfielder Ryan Jack has still not returned to first-team training.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined since March with a calf injury but it had been assumed that a longstanding problem had been resolved and he was working his way back to playing once again. However, McAllister did not give a positive update on the player’s fitness ahead of the League Cup clash against Livingston:
“Ryan Jack is still missing from training and he’s still working hard to get back to full fitness.”
Jack’s continued absence from training has led to increasing numbers of fans on Twitter to question whether the Scotland international will ever make his comeback:
Ryan Jack news is a big concern

Doesn’t look good for Jack gutted as he’s so important for us.

We just need to cut ties with Jack now unfortunately

Said it for the last couple months just let jack’s contract down and take the hit we can’t rely on a player that plays about a 3rd of a season

That is unfounded extrapolated pessimism squared 😄

Absolutely no chance we see ryan jack back to anywhere near the player he was pre injury, wont be surprised if he’s let go in the summer

Not good, for him or us.
Hopefully some light at the end of a dark tunnel for him, at least he’s training— Richard McLuckie (@Acemcl) September 21, 2021
Me too. Wonder if he will ever return… no one wants to talk about it. Find it strange! Really hope he’s back soon

It’s probably best not to speculate too much regarding Jack’s fitness. It may simply be the case that he has had another minor setback and will return to full training very soon. On the other hand, you can’t help but worry that there could be a more major issue, considering how long he has been out for.
