Arsenal could be “in the frame” to sign Rangers’ left-back Calvin Bassey this summer, according to the Daily Record.

A number of Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and West Ham, have been linked with the defender recently, but it appears the Gunners could also be among his potential suitors.

Rangers are thought to be holding out for a fee in excess of the £25m that Arsenal paid for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney but it remains to be seen whether the London club would shell out that much on Bassey.

Interest in the 22-year-old has skyrocketed since the player’s performance in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, which led to him being singled out for praise by Owen Hargreaves. The BT Sport pundit was full of compliments for the defender after the game last week, despite the Gers being on the losing side:

“Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance. That was astonishing, the energy and effort. Everything about his game was fantastic. Anyone watching that will be thinking: ‘That’s the kind of player I want in my team’.”

Bassey is believed to be happy in Glasgow and he is unlikely to force through a move, so fans will be hoping that he remains at Ibrox.
