Barry Ferguson says there will be interest from other clubs in a number of Rangers players during the January transfer window but he fully expects them to stay put.

The Light Blues have announced financial losses amounting to £6.4m up until June 2020 but Ferguson feels the likes of Alfredo Morelos and other stars won’t be sold midway through the season even if bids are received for them:

“I’d be absolutely astounded if anyone was allowed to go. Knowing the Rangers board and Douglas Park well, I think there’s no chance they’ll cash in on anyone in January. I’ve no doubt there will be interest in the likes of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier and even Connor Goldson. Scott Arfield too. For me, he has actually been Rangers’ top performer.”

Rangers’ excellent form means that there will inevitably be teams interested in some of their star players but there is a lot at stake. Not only is the title on the line but qualification for the Champions League, with the riches that entails, should encourage the Rangers board to hold on to their key assets.

The worst thing you can do in the middle of a title race is to split up a winning team so supporters will be hoping Ferguson is right.
