Sochi forward Mateo Cassierra has said that he should know “within the next week” where he will be playing his football next season.
Rangers have been linked with the Colombian and, when asked about a potential switch to Ibrox, Cassierra claimed that manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is aware of him following his time playing in Dutch football:
“I hope within the next week or so, my future will be confirmed and I will sign for a club who are good for me. My priority is to stay in Europe because I have been here for five years now.”
“The manager of Rangers knows me because when I was at Ajax, he was the manager of Feyenoord. So there are options for me that need to be evaluated.”
Cassierra had a very good season in the Russian Premier Liga, scoring 14 goals in 22 appearances, so he would certainly be a candidate to reinforce the Gers’ forward line.
If he is considering a move to Scotland, he would have undoubtedly contacted fellow countryman Alfredo Morelos. The Rangers striker is currently undergoing rehab on a thigh injury that prevented him from taking part in key fixtures during the closing weeks of the season, including the Europa League final.
However, Morelos is expected to be back for preseason and he would be the first to welcome Cassierra to his new club if the 25-year-old does decide to move to Rangers.
