Ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes his former club could sell Glen Kamara for around £7m this summer.
Most press reports have suggested that the Gers have slapped a £10m price tag on the Finnish international, who has been linked with West Ham, Everton, Arsenal, Brentford and Watford in recent weeks.
However, Ferguson feels £7m would still be an excellent return on a player they signed for just £50,000 two and a half years ago:
“Having snapped Kamara up for £50k – which might be the most ridiculous pound-for-pound signing the club ever made – it might be difficult to knock back offers of around £7m for a guy who walked into the Euros in a Finland shirt and looked as if he belongs at that level.”
While the majority of fans may feel Ferguson is undervaluing Kamara somewhat, there is one important factor to consider: his contract situation.
The 25-year-old has two years to run on his current deal, and there are no signs that he will agree to extend his stay at Ibrox, despite the fact that the player has been in talks with the club for a number of months.
Kamara’s value will depreciate over the next year so the summer transfer window is the perfect time to offload him if he isn’t interested in staying. We shall see what sort of bids come in for the midfielder in the coming weeks.
