BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves claims Rangers winger Ryan Kent’s excellent performance against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night would have led to many clubs in England and Germany sitting up and taking notice.
The former Liverpool player has had a rather underwhelming season so far but he was at the top of his game at Signal Iduna Park, with Hargreaves even comparing his style of play to a former Bayern Munich player.
“It almost looked like it was Franck Ribery terrorising Borussia Dortmund the way he used to do for Bayern Munich. I wouldn’t be surprised if teams in the Premier League or Bundesliga are looking because that is a performance that you have to sit back and think ‘wow, that is a special player’.”
“He shocked everyone and the Dortmund players wouldn’t have known much about him but you can guarantee at the end of the game every player in the dressing room would have said ‘who’s that guy?’. It was absolutely exceptional, the control and the quality. Running at players is Ryan Kent’s greatest attribute. I love watching Ryan Kent. Technically he’s absolutely brilliant.”
It was a very impressive display from Kent and he has certainly upped his performances in recent games, having bagged six assists in his last six appearances for the Bears.
At his best, the 25-year-old can trouble any defence but the key now is to carry that form on for the rest of the season. If he can maintain his current levels, you have to think that the Gers will have great success both domestically and in Europe.
