Rangers captain James Tavernier has been in excellent form for the Light Blues this season. The 28-year-old has scored 12 goals and laid on nine assists in all competitions which are quite remarkable stats for a right-back.
Supporters on Twitter have been debating whether the defender deserves to be in the England squad. While some believe he warrants a call-up, others are not so sure, pointing out the strength in depth the Three Lions possess in that position:
Going by his performances in the league and Europe – he deserves a chance!

Even with TAA out there’s no way Tav gets in the top 5 England right backs, unfortunate for him that it’s the strongest position they’ve got.

in the squad atleast.

Should have had a call up last season definitely deserves a spot in the squad #Truebluesloyal

Listen he’s been magnificent this season especially but @England have TAA in that position then it’s the likes of Trippier & Walker. It’s tough for our captain to get ahead of those guys until he plays in their top flight.

He should but will never happen. TAA is probably the best rb in football just now and with him injured there’s Walker, trippier, wan bissaka and that young lamptey at Brighton Who is on fire

No he’s good but they have better

I think Tav has been amazing this season but I don’t think he’ll be considered for England with Trent, Trippier, Walker and Wan Bisaka on the scene. I did wonder if Scotland might come calling though if he’s eligible next season through his time spent in Scotland ?⚪️?

England are certainly not short of right-backs, with the likes of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, Chelsea’s Reece James, Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier and Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka all competing for a place in the squad.
With that level of competition, Tavernier would have his work cut out, but most Gers fans won’t mind him missing out anyway, as it means he will be well-rested and fully focused on club football after the international break.
