Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has confirmed that there was interest from other clubs before the transfer window closed.

Reports in recent days have suggested Arsenal enquired about the Finnish international before they signed Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Kamara says he was aware that teams were keen on securing on his services:

“I know there has been interest from different leagues but my focus has always been on Rangers. I myself was not very interested in it. Mostly I thought that if something happens, then it will happen. But nothing happened in the end.”

West Ham, Everton and Watford were also linked with Kamara in the summer, and while it appears that the 25-year-old is happy to remain at Ibrox, he says a new contract is yet to be agreed:

“Discussions have taken place and are still ongoing. Let’s see what happens. I can’t say much more about it.”

Considering how Kamara has started this season, fans will be keen to have the midfielder tied down for the long term as soon as possible. The Light Blues look like a different team when he is in the side.

The Finn’s current deal expires in 2023 so, while there is no real urgency to get him to sign on the dotted line, it would ward off potential suitors and signal his intention to stay at Rangers.
