Steven Gerrard’s former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher believes the Rangers manager could well stay at Ibrox for five to six years.
When Gerrard first moved up to Scotland three years ago, Carragher assumed it would be a short spell in charge before he decided to return to manage in England.
However, the Sky Sports pundit now believes his friend and ex-teammate is unlikely to leave the Light Blues any time soon and he expects him to try and turn Rangers into the dominant force in Scotland:
“I think, now, that Stevie will have that drive to dominate Scottish football for Rangers in the next few years That’s not something he’s told me but he’ll want those supporters in there for European nights, he’ll want to win the league in front of supporters. I think Stevie now looks at this and thinks this could be a five or six-year job, as opposed to a two or a three-year one when he first came in.”
Carragher’s words will be music to the ears of every Gers supporter. There has always been a fear that Gerrard could leave for a Premier League club, with reports in recent months linking him with Tottenham.
However, it seems the club can look forward to having him around for many more years to come. It will be hoped that the Scottish champions will be able to build up a large trophy collection during that time.
