Ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd believe his former club will have to reach 96 points if they are to finish as champions this season.

The Bears are now trailing rivals Celtic by a point after Wednesday’s Old Firm derby defeat and Boyd believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will have to secure victory in 13 of their last 14 matches to beat the Hoops to the title:

“For me, Rangers will probably need to win 13 of their remaining 14 league matches between now and the end of the season. And at least draw the other one with Celtic back at Parkhead.”

If Boyd’s prediction turns out to be correct then the Gers have a massive job on their hands. Looking at their fixtures before the split, they have two games against the Edinburgh clubs coming up at Ibrox.

Those matches will be difficult to negotiate but if they can get maximum points, it should hold them in good stead going into the away fixture versus Dundee United and the home clash against Motherwell.

With the remaining home fixtures being Aberdeen and Celtic, and away games facing St Johnstone, Dundee and St Mirren, Rangers do have a chance to put a decent run together but we shall see how things play out.
