Michael Stewart has reserved special praise for Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor and his contribution to winning the club’s 55th league title.

The pundit says the 39-year-old’s consistency as a shot-stopper is remarkable, considering his age, and he thinks the keeper is enjoying every minute as he closes in on the end of his career:

“Leader. Makes saves. Repeat. What more can you say about the Gers veteran? He’s incredible, he only seems to have got better with age, too, and is clearly enjoying himself at this late stage of his career.”

Stewart is certainly an unlikely figure to be praising McGregor but it is hard for anyone to deny how well the goalkeeper has performed for the Light Blues this season.

He has helped keep 16 clean sheets in 23 league appearances, and he has conceded just seven goals. Those sort of numbers are extraordinarily good, and while much of the credit has to go to the defenders in front of him, the veteran keeper has made some crucial saves along the way too.

McGregor’s superb stop in the first leg of the Europa League tie against Slavia Prague last week typified what has been an outstanding effort from the man affectionately known as ‘Shagger.’
