Former Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas claims the behaviour of both Rangers and Celtic supporters will mean the idea of a ‘British Super League’ will never come to fruition.

Some unsavoury scenes in George Square over the weekend prompted Nicholas to say it was just another example of why English Premier League teams will be keen to avoid bringing the Old Firm clubs into the fold:

“Recently people were suggesting a British Super League again after the European Super League failed. Guys like Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil were all about it. People need a sense of reality because English football doesn’t need any problematic situations from Glasgow’s two giants. They respect the size of the clubs but that is as far as it goes.”

The Gers did issue a statement to condemn the small minority of fans whose actions marred the club’s celebrations after winning title number 55.

Although it was disappointing to see those scenes, the idea of a Super League is as far from the mind of supporters as it can be at the moment.

For manager Steven Gerrard and his players, the only focus now will be on building on this success and looking to retain the title next season when, hopefully, the team can play in front of their own fans.
