BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves is confident that Rangers will make it through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after their 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade last night.
While the former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder thinks the return fixture in Serbia will be a very difficult match to negotiate, he feels that the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent have the quality to help them progress further in the competition:
“That is a really tough place to go and play but I’m sure they’ll bring some great support with them and I think with a 3-0 advantage, with Kent and Morelos, I think they have more than enough firepower to go and score there. But I think it’s going to be a very, very tough game.”
Red Star are clearly a threat going forward, having had three goals disallowed, as well as missing a penalty, last night so the Gers’ defence will likely come under massive pressure in Belgrade next week.
You would hope, though, as Hargreaves points out, that a three-goal lead will be enough to help Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side over the line. It’s been a magnificent effort from the Gers in Europe so far this season and the dream of reaching the final in Spain could be one step closer.
