talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara thinks the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester would much prefer to face Rangers in the Europa League round of 16 than other European teams.
The Gers hold a one-goal advantage heading into their second leg against Antwerp this evening, but if they do qualify for the next stage and draw an English club, O’Hara feels it will be seen as a good result for the Premier League sides:
“I think every Premier League team would want to get Rangers in the next round. I mean, come on, you are talking about teams like AC Milan, Roma, Napoli, Ajax, you’re going to prefer to play Rangers.”
In terms of their record in Europe over the past few years, O’Hara may be right to believe that the Premier League teams would be pleased with drawing Rangers, but their form this season suggests they shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Rangers’ excellent defensive record in all competitions this campaign means they are perfectly set up for knockout football, and they would make life hard for any opponent they come up against, including the likes of United and Arsenal.
