Zenit St Petersburg have not made a move to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to the Colombian’s agent.
The transfer deadline for Russian clubs is tomorrow and there had been some speculation that Zenit were considering making an approach for the forward, but Michael Gorman says those reports are incorrect:
“This information is not true. No proposals have been received from Russia.”
It has been claimed that Zenit did not have the funds to meet Morelos’s €25m (£20.8m) asking price so it should be pointed out that Gorman is not necessarily denying Zenit’s interest, only that the Russian club have not made a formal bid for the 25-year-old.
From the looks of things, it appears that they have been put off by Rangers’ valuation of the player, which is very good news as, if Morelos had departed this month, the Light Blues would not have been able to replace him. That is likely the key reason why the price tag was so high anyway.
