Rangers are looking to snap up goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin from Sunderland, according to reports in the English media.

The 32-year-old has a year left on his contract at the Stadium of Light but the Black Cats have offered an extension to try and persuade the veteran into staying for longer.

McLaughlin is an experienced goalkeeper, having spent long spells at both Bradford City and Burton Albion. He has also been capped by Scotland on two occasions, with his last match only coming back in October last year, playing the full 90 minutes in the 6-0 win over San Marino.

At club level this season, the keeper has been Sunderland’s number one, making 35 appearances in all competitions, conceding 31 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.

The Gers could certainly do with a solid backup to current first-choice Allan McGregor with both Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick having left Ibrox last month after their contracts expired.
