Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham and Norwich have all joined Rangers in pursuing Northampton forward Caleb Chukwuemeka, according to reports in England.

The 19-year-old is believed to be out of contract in January and the Gers were hopeful of signing him for only £60,000 when his current deal expires.

However, four Premier League teams are now said to be tracking Chukwuemeka, with Villa believed to have already had an offer rejected by Northampton to sign him this summer.

Rangers are unlikely to get involved in a bidding war for the teenager, and it’s probable that Steven Gerrard’s side will only intervene if he doesn’t find another club before the New Year.

Chukwuemeka made 28 senior appearances for Northampton last season, having made his first-team debut for the English League One side in a 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon back in September. He scored his first goal in an EFL Trophy match versus Southampton’s Under 21s a month later.
