Rangers had a bid rejected by Arsenal for centre-back Harry Clarke this month, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The 20-year-old impressed during a loan spell at Ross County in the first half of the season and the Light Blues were keen to bring him to Ibrox on a permanent basis.

However, the Gunners weren’t willing to sell Clarke, and they opted to send the defender on loan to Hibernian for the next eighteen months instead.

Whether the Gers had targeted the Englishman as a potential option to strengthen their first-team squad, it is not known.

Most of the transfer speculation in recent days has centred around Hearts’ John Souttar and Vitesse Arnhem captain Danilho Doekhi but both of those players are being lined up as free transfers ahead of the summer.

Clarke was seemingly being looked at as a target for the January transfer window, but his move to Hibs has put an end to Rangers’ interest.
