Manchester United have joined the likes of Rangers and Southampton in pursuing Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, according to reports in the UK.

The Red Devils are believed to be considering the former Swiss Under 21 international as a potential understudy for David De Gea.

Scout Tony Coton was spotted in the stands at Tannadice when Siegrist’s side took on Celtic in the Scottish Cup quarter-final last weekend.

The Swiss star wouldn’t have impressed, though, dropping a clanger for Giorgos Giakoumakis to score the second in a comfortable 3-0 win for the away side.

Siegrist was linked with the Gers back in January, with some tipping the 30-year-old to become Allan McGregor’s successor in goal.

Dundee United’s number one is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer but the involvement of a number of English Premier League clubs in the battle for his signature does complicate matters.
