Rangers are planning to join the race to sign Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson, according to reports in the UK.

Watford are said to have had a £1.2m bid (rising to £2m) turned down; an offer which was described as “insulting” by the Dons.

Ferguson has handed in a transfer request as a result but that has also been rejected. It is, though, hard to see how the club will be able to keep hold of the Scotland Under 21 international.

Rangers will have a key advantage in their attempts to sign the player, with his father, Derek, being a former Light Blues player, while Barry Ferguson is his uncle.

Ferguson’s price could still prove to be a stumbling block with reports suggesting that Aberdeen could hold out for as much as £4m.

It will be hoped that the Gers can come to some sort of compromise, with performance-related bonuses perhaps being used as part of the deal, but we shall see how negotiations progress.
