Bristol City are leading the likes of Rangers and Celtic in the race to sign Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas, according to reports in the English media.

The Scottish international has been with Marcelo Bielsa’s side for three years but his contract expires at the end of this month and he will be available on a free transfer.

Douglas has also had spells in Poland and Turkey during his career but his preference is to stay in the UK, due to the fact that he has a young family. A move to the Robins appears to be the likeliest outcome at the moment for the 31-year-old, who has 65 assists in 322 senior appearances.

The fullback spent last season on loan at another Championship side Blackburn Rovers and it appears that he will be remaining in the second tier of English football.

In terms of Rangers’ interest, there has never been anything concrete, and it must be pointed out that manager Steven Gerrard already has two left-backs available to him in Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey.
