Rangers are preparing a three-year contract proposal for Vitesse Arnhem centre-back Danilho Doekhi, according to reports in the Dutch media.

Last week, it was claimed in the English press that the Gers, Newcastle and Fulham were all interested in the Netherlands Under 21 international and it now seems like the Light Blues are the favourites for his signature.

Doekhi is believed to be valued at around £1.5m, and the player is reportedly open to making the next step in his career by leaving Vitesse this summer.

Whether Rangers really need another centre-half, it is up for debate. Manager Steven Gerrard will have six centre-backs in his first-team squad next season, once Nikola Katic gets back to full fitness and George Edmundson returns from his loan spell at Derby.

Not all of them are expected to stay at Ibrox so a move for Doekhi could be considered but it is hardly an area of the pitch which is in need of strengthening.
