Rangers do have an agreement in principle to sign FC Honka striker Juan Alegria, but there could be an issue in completing the deal, according to reports.

New Brexit regulations governing the signing of foreign players could lead to a move stalling with the 18-year-old not eligible for a work visa based on the current criteria.

A points-based system is set to be used to qualify for a permit. Points will be given out based on the number of international caps at senior and youth level, as well as the league they play in.

Alegria has not been capped by Colombia’s senior side and the fact that he is currently plying his trade in Finland will also count against him in attaining the 15 points required.

Rangers could still sign the teenager, but then loan him out to another team until such a time that he does qualify, and that may be the approach the Scottish club will go for.
