Vitesse Arnhem centre-half Danilho Doekhi “will leave” the Eredivisie side on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to de Gelderlander.

The Dutch newspaper claims that Rangers were interested in signing the 23-year-old last month, along with two Serie A clubs, Atalanta and Napoli.

It is not known whether all three teams will go after Doekhi this summer, but there is no doubt that Rangers could do with adding another option in the centre of defence.

While John Souttar will arrive from Hearts in June, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s centre-back options for next season are far from set in stone.

Connor Goldson has still not agreed a new contract and could leave Ibrox. As could Leon Balogun who has yet to put pen to paper on an extension either. Jack Simpson has hardly played this season so he may be sold, which would leave Filip Helander as the only centre-half expected to remain a Gers player. Doekhi could, therefore, be seen as a capable addition to strengthen the club’s numbers at the back.
