Davie Provan has labelled Ryan Kent Rangers’ “most important player” but the Sky Sports pundit has warned the Gers they could have a fight on their hands to keep the 24-year-old.
Leeds are expected to revive their interest in the Englishman this summer, with a £15m bid reportedly in the works, and Provan thinks the former Liverpool winger may well be tempted to leave the Light Blues:
“Splashing £7.5m to make Kent’s Ibrox deal permanent was an expensive risk. The player has repaid Gers’ faith big time. For me, he’s now Gerrard’s most important player. Morelos has made it clear he wants a bigger stage than our Premiership, while it’s likely Kent will want to prove himself back in the Premier League. Bottom line is if the 24-year-old fancies an England career, he will have to move south. I mean, how often do you see Gareth Southgate in Glasgow?”
Kent has recently spoken out about rumours linking him with a transfer away from Ibrox, and he stated it was “nice” to be mentioned in reports, which may (or may not) suggest that he would be interested in a switch to the Premier League.
Whatever the case, the Light Blues are in a very strong position. They can offer Champions League football to the winger, which is more than most English teams can provide, and they are financially stable enough to knock away any derisory bids.
