Ex-Rangers winger Trevor Steven is backing his former club to see off Borussia Dortmund when they face the German giants at Ibrox this evening.

The Light Blues hold a 4-2 lead heading into the second leg but, with away goals no longer taken into consideration, Dortmund only need to score twice to get the game to extra time. However, Stevens believes the Ibrox crowd may play a big role in helping Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side over the line:

“I know these Dortmund players are very well experienced but I think the atmosphere tonight will even be a shock to them. Rangers as a team have to use that to their benefit. They are in good form and have really good players in the squad, particularly across midfield. Ryan Kent was particularly impressive in the Dortmund game. They have the ammunition and backed by that Ibrox crowd I put them down as favourites to go through.”

It’s a very difficult game to predict, mainly because Dortmund’s form has been extremely erratic. After losing to the Gers last week, Marco Rose’s team then went on to beat Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0 at the weekend, and that was even without Erling Haaland.

If they turn up with the same level of commitment and quality tonight, the Bears will have a tough job keeping them out. With Haaland still sidelined, they still have a decent chance to progress, but the home support will have to do their part.
