Fenerbahce want Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as their next manager, according to a leading Turkish sporting director.

Speaking about the Super Lig giant’s interest in Gerrard, Ozan Zeybek commented that they would seek to replace current boss Erol Bulut if the Yellow Canaries failed to beat Fatih Karagumrük yesterday:

“Currently, the management is not holding a meeting with the thought of [it being] unethical, but the managers want to appoint Steven Gerrard. He’s going to [win] the championship with Glasgow Rangers right now, which would be hard to bring in.”

Fenerbahce did actually beat Karagumruk so Bulut will likely get a stay of execution but, in any case, the claims made by Zeybek seem quite hard to believe.

Following yesterday’s victory, Fenerbahce have moved to the top of the Super Lig table, leading rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas by three points, having played a game more.

It would hardly be the ideal time to replace their manager in the midst of a title challenge. Their attempts to appoint Gerrard would likely prove futile as well, so it is best advised to take these comments from Zeybek with a very large pinch of salt.
