Schalke goalkeeper Martin Fraisl has revealed that he is preparing to leave Germany this summer when his contract expires.

Rangers are reportedly keeping tabs on the Austrian’s situation and, with no new talks about an extension scheduled, Fraisl says he has been turning his thoughts as to what country he would like to play in:

“I used the international week to create a profile for myself. I have clearly structured which countries or clubs could come into question for me and what I want or don’t want. Basically, I looked at how I define myself and where I could fit in.”

“We’ll see if I stay at Schalke or not, but certainly there are no new contract extension talks. I feel a lot of respect for the club and they will be the first to know my decision.”

There had been some reports that the Gers had offered Fraisl a two-year deal but it is believed that the 28-year-old has only been shortlisted as a possible option to replace Allan McGregor.

At the moment, it is not known whether McGregor will retire at the end of the season or play on for another year. That uncertainty could lead to the Light Blues losing out on Fraisl if another team comes in for him soon.

The shot-stopper has had a decent season, conceding 23 goals and keeping seven clean sheets in 21 appearances for Schalke in Bundesliga 2.
