Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says he will continue picking John Lundstram despite contract talks breaking down between the player and the Premier League club.

The midfielder, who has been linked with Rangers, West Ham and Brighton, could sign a pre-contract agreement with another team in under six weeks time and Wilder is aware that the issue is making life awkward:

“It’s not an ideal situation and I want ideal situations. I’ve talked about this for a long time. I’d love John to stop. Whoever I pick, they’ll go out there. Whatever happens, there’s no downside to John going out there and doing well.”

Lundstram will undoubtedly have a lot of suitors, considering he is available on a free transfer, and it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues would have the financial resources to match his wage demands.

The Scottish club already have a number of central midfielders in the squad, but with Steven Davis turning 36 in January, and Glen Kamara in high demand, there may be a vacancy to fill next summer.

Signing a player of the calibre of Lundstram, who is still only 26 years of age, would be a huge coup if Rangers can pull it off.
