Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may have refuted claims that the Light Blues could sign Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour on loan in January but that hasn’t stopped supporters talking about a possible return.

The 19-year-old left Ibrox for Stamford Bridge in 2017, and when asked whether they would like the Scottish club to re-sign the midfielder in the future, most fans on Twitter were very much behind the idea:

Going by Gerrard’s comments, it does seem like Gilmour’s return is a remote possibility but it will be interesting to see how he fares in terms of game time at Chelsea over the coming weeks and months.

The teenager has only recently recovered from a knee injury and, although he was given game time by Blues boss Frank Lampard last season, he may struggle to get back into a team which possesses holding midfielders like N’Golo Kante.

If Gilmour doesn’t play too much over the festive period and into the New Year, it may be something that Rangers could revisit before the next transfer window closes.
