Ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has tipped West Ham vice-captain Declan Rice to make the switch to Manchester United, rather than the Blues.

After watching the England international play in the 2-1 win over Leeds United on Friday night, Cascarino said the 21-year-old was extremely impressive and he can see United making a bid for the player:

“Declan Rice was superb. He absolutely ran the show in midfield. He was up against Kalvin Phillips as well, who is a good player, and I thought he just took the game by the scruff of the neck. He just stunk of a Manchester United signing to me. I was sat there thinking, ‘Wow!’”

It’s a strange comment from Cascarino. Chelsea are thought to be eyeing a deal for Rice in the January transfer window, but only if they can raise the funds necessary from player sales.

West Ham are said to value the midfielder at around £80m, which will likely ward off most suitors, and it may be enough to deter the likes of Chelsea as well.

In one sense Cascarino is right to point out that United would be one of the few teams who could finance a move for Rice, but there have certainly been no links with a switch to Old Trafford in recent months.
