West Ham are very unlikely to sell vice-captain Declan Rice in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Telegraph‘s transfer expert Mike McGrath.

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Twitch channel today (quotes via West Ham Zone), McGrath said that any approach for the England international from another club is only expected to happen next summer:

“From what I’m hearing West Ham wouldn’t ever want to just sell for the money, they’d want it to be for sporting reasons, that he would want to go for a new challenge rather than just accept a big offer. So I actually see it being quite a difficult transfer for someone to do and it wouldn’t be in January, it would be in the summer if anybody did try.”

Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are believed to be the three clubs who are most interested in signing Rice, and would fit the criteria of being a “new challenge.”

However, no team, as far as we are aware, have made a formal bid for the 22-year-old over the last six months, and it would still take a massive transfer fee for the Hammers to even consider selling up.

Were a club to table an offer in excess of £100m then a conversation may need to be had but, at this stage, there is no prospect of Rice leaving the London Stadium.
