West Ham remain interested in signing Southampton striker Danny Ings as a potential alternative to Tammy Abraham, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The Hammers are actively looking to sign a new forward in the summer but Crook feels their chances of snapping up the former Liverpool player are pretty slim:

“West Ham have been on the hunt for a number nine since they sold Sebastien Haller [to Ajax] in the last transfer window. They’ve got an interest in Danny Ings at Southampton as well, although, my understanding is that he has a gentleman’s agreement with Saints that he will only leave if either of the two Manchester clubs come in for him. If not, he will sign a new contract to become their highest-paid player.”

It’s unlikely that either Manchester United and Manchester City would be interested in Ings now, considering his injury record, and it is also something fans on Twitter are concerned about:

To be fair to Ings, he has started 23 league games for Southampton this season, and he has only missed seven matches due to injury. However, his history of knee problems would probably make him a less attractive purchase than someone like Abraham, who is also five years younger.

Another name being considered is Everton’s Josh King, but he has struggled since making the switch to Goodison Park, so he is likely only being considered as a backup option at this point.
