Former West Ham and Chelsea fullback Glen Johnson believes the Hammers should make a move to sign Armanda Broja this summer.

The Albanian international had an impressive loan spell at Southampton last season, and he has been linked with both West Ham and Arsenal since then. Johnson claims the striker could provide the goal threat up front David Moyes’ side desperately need:

“He [Broja] fits the profile of a striker that West Ham should be looking to sign. He’s been scoring goals in the Premier League and looks like a tidy finisher. They definitely need a natural goalscorer in their squad, and if West Ham had an out and out goalscorer in their side this season, then that could have made the difference.”

It is a major bone of contention among West Ham supporters that the club haven’t recruited a new forward since the departure of Sebastien Haller eighteen months ago.

With Michail Antonio failing to maintain his early-season form in front of goal, there is no doubt that the Irons’ performances suffered as a result. Bringing in another recognised number nine should be a top priority.

As Johnson points out, Broja does have the attributes to play in West Ham’s system but the main problem is whether Chelsea will let him go. Manager Thomas Tuchel has said he will be assessing the 20-year-old in pre-season, and we may have to wait until then to find out whether the player is available.
