West Ham manager David Moyes may consider going after Ross Barkley in the summer if he doesn’t have a future at Chelsea, according to reports in the English media.

The 27-year-old, who has 33 caps for England, is currently on loan at Aston Villa but he has not made the kind of impact at the Midlands club he would have hoped.

After scoring on his first two appearances for the Villans, Barkley has scored just once more in 20 appearances, with a drop in form and a hamstring problem having contributed to a disappointing loan spell. Most Hammers fans on Twitter don’t think it would be a good idea to go after the midfielder:

It would be a gamble if Moyes were to pursue Barkley, but if the Irons can’t secure the services of Jesse Lingard, he could be a realistic alternative.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel may want to run the rule over Barkley in preseason, but the likelihood is that he could be available for a relatively modest fee which West Ham may be tempted by.
