Jermaine Jenas believes there will be a number of clubs seriously considering making an offer for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham this summer.
West Ham have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old but Jenas says that the likes of Arsenal, Brighton, Watford and Southampton could also be in the mix for the striker’s signature:
“I would like to think that Tammy could maybe go on a loan. I don’t think it’s the time for Chelsea to be completely cutting ties. You’ve got Watford, who have just come up. Brighton are desperate for someone to get them goals. Southampton is another team you look at and wonder if he could do a job.”
“He could even go to Arsenal, if Chelsea let him. Mikel Arteta is insistent on playing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off the left. He’s not going to go to Tottenham if Harry Kane is still there. West Ham? He’s a suitable player for a number of teams and I think a lot will be looking at his services.”
While Jenas claims Abraham could be loaned out, the noises coming out of Stamford Bridge suggest the Blues are keen on offloading the forward on a permanent basis in order to raise funds for their own signings.
£40m is the figure that has been bandied around the English media, which is a price tag that will be beyond the reach of the Hammers. It is thought that manager David Moyes would not go beyond the £25m to £30m mark for the England international.
Alternative targets have been suggested, with Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst the latest to be mentioned in press reports.
